TinFerno brings a ferro rod and striker together with a varied supply of prepared tinder for camping, backcountry travel and emergency preparedness. From spark-catching char cloth to wax-infused rope, fatwood and fire starter rolls, the kit gives you options for building an ember, establishing a flame and lighting your kindling.

IGNITION & TINDER

The ferro rod and striker provide the ignition source. The included cloth, ropes, rolls, plugs, shreds and wood provide different tinder options. This is one ignition tool supported by multiple tinder materials, so you can choose and portion your supplies for the fire you are building.

• Ferro rod: Produces 3,000°F sparks and is rated for 20,000+ strikes.
• Wax rope tinder: 10+ minutes of burn time per piece; portion size and conditions affect duration.
• Kit capacity: Capable of 150+ fire starts under normal conditions with appropriate portioning and technique.
• First-strike performance: The fire plugs support first-strike ignition with proper preparation and technique.

Performance varies with tinder preparation, fuel, wind, moisture and user technique. The kit supports fire starting in wet, windy and cold conditions, but successful ignition still requires a suitable fire lay and careful preparation.

GETTING STARTED

1. Prepare the site: Use a permitted outdoor fire area, clear surrounding combustibles and have water ready.
2. Gather your fuel: Arrange dry kindling and progressively larger wood before lighting the tinder.
3. Select and prepare tinder: Follow the included guide for the material you choose. Portion only what you need and move the remaining kit away from the fire.
4. Ignite: Direct sparks from the ferro rod into prepared tinder. Char cloth holds an ember that must be transferred to a suitable tinder bundle to develop a flame.
5. Build gradually: Add small kindling first, maintain airflow and increase fuel size as the fire establishes.

SPECIFICATIONS

STORAGE & SAFETY

The metal case keeps the kit organized and enclosed, but it is not waterproof. Store the contents dry and use an additional waterproof bag when exposure to rain or water is likely. Keep away from heat, open flames and children. Allow all equipment to cool completely before packing it away.

Use outdoors only in a suitable fire area. Follow local fire restrictions, never leave a fire unattended and fully extinguish it before leaving. Do not light tinder inside the storage case or near the remaining kit contents.

What makes the tinder selection useful?
Different materials support different stages of fire starting, from catching a spark and holding an ember to sustaining a flame. Choose and portion the tinder to suit your available fuel and conditions.

How many fires can the kit start?
It is capable of 150+ fire starts under normal conditions. Actual yield depends on how you portion the tinder, the available fuel, weather and technique. The ferro rod is rated for 20,000+ strikes; a strike is not the same as a completed fire start.

Is the case waterproof?
No. It is a tightly closed metal storage case. Keep the contents dry and add a waterproof outer bag for wet conditions.

Does char cloth burn like a fire starter roll?
Char cloth catches and holds a glowing ember. Transfer that ember to a suitable tinder bundle and follow the included guide to develop a flame.

Do I need matches or a lighter?
The included ferro rod and striker can ignite suitable prepared tinder without matches or lighter fluid. You still need kindling, fuel, a safe fire site and the correct technique.
